Chinese vice president meets with Mongolian PM

BEIJING - Vice President Xi Jinping on Friday called for closer non-governmental contact between China and Mongolia to consolidate bilateral ties.

Xi made the remarks during a meeting with visiting Mongolian Prime Minister Sukhbaatar Batbold at the Great Hall of the People in downtown Beijing.

"The sentiment between the two peoples consists of an important pillar of bilateral ties," Xi said, adding that grassroots support is necessary for the development of the China-Mongolia strategic partnership.

He called on the two sides to consider bilateral ties from a strategic and long-term perspective and enhance cooperation in such fields as culture, education and youth.

Xi also pledged to bolster economic cooperation with Mongolia, especially in the mining sector that serves as a pillar of Mongolia's economy.

"China's foreign economic and trade policy is aimed at seeking mutual benefits, win-win solutions and common development through equal cooperation," Xi said.

Batbold, hailed the establishment of the strategic partnership that has been forged during his ongoing trip, saying China's development poses no threat but opportunities for Mongolia.

Mongolia will strengthen cooperation with China in politics, trade, economy, mining, agriculture, science and technology, education, infrastructure and humanitarian fields, he said.
