The rapid development of the internet of things industry in Wuxi has attracted a large number of recruiters to the city in Jiangsu province, according to a senior local official.

Li Xiaomin, Party chief of Wuxi, said the industry currently has more than 180,000 employees, including 13,000 high-caliber professionals, and 75 listed in the One Thousand Talent Plan, a national plan for attracting top international professionals.

Li noted that Wuxi launched a raft of successful initiatives to invite domestic and international elites to join the city's efforts to boost its modern industries in recent years, including the Taihu Lake Talent Plan and its upgraded guidelines, providing further incentives and support.

Rich incentives are being offered for the highest level of recruits being sought by Wuxi. These include Nobel Prize laureates, domestic and international academicians and State Supreme Science and Technology Award winners in the fields of IoT, intelligent manufacturing and modern services.

Those who make it to Wuxi to establish startups, promote the industrialization of core technology or provide economic and social benefits, will be eligible to receive a generous subsidy of up to 100 million yuan ($14.59 million), according to the Wuxi government.

Li said Wuxi will also continuously implement an innovation-driven strategy, striving to build a modern industrial system and a solid business foundation for emerging enterprises and talented people to make their dreams come true.

To date, the number of IoT companies established in Wuxi exceeds 2,000, and the operating income of the IoT industry in Wuxi last year was 243.7 billion yuan, playing a leading role in the country, Li said.

The government has also collaborated with the Association of Thousand Talent Program to attract more recruits, Li added.

In addition, Wuxi will also continue to cooperate with universities and research institutes at home and abroad, holding exchange conferences and launching key research projects.

Hu Min, vice-president of the UK-Chinese Business Association, a trade platform to promote economic exchanges and commercial links between the two nations, said Wuxi has benefited from a great deal of business done with Britain, supported by the city's comprehensive recruitment policy.

Hu added that not only the business climate, but also the living environment in Wuxi is sound and attractive.

Dong Liang, CEO of Govtor Capital Group - a high-tech investment company in Jiangsu province - said Wuxi has taken the lead in introducing a series of measures to support innovation, entrepreneurship and the development of small and medium-sized enterprises in China.
