Yue Xiaoyun, 29, traveled by horse and foot from Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region to the southwestern municipality of Chongqing — nearly 4,400 kilometers — in an adventure spanning more than half a year. The adventure cost nearly 50,000 yuan ($7,895) including buying the horse, which was 32,000 yuan.

"Life is short and I'm just doing what many others want to do," Yue said, adding that he will soon start a new life. And he'll keep Hotpot, his loyal friend, to the last.
