Some 100,000 people who offered bribes have been placed investigation in the past 10 years, said a senior anti-graft official at a news conference on the sidelines of the ongoing 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China on Monday.

"While strengthening the fight against people who received bribes, we've also paid greater efforts to punish the bribe givers since the 18th CPC National Congress," said Xiao Pei, deputy head of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC Central Committee and vice-chairman of the National Supervisory Commission.

"Over the past decade, we focused more on the fight against people who paid bribes many times, paid huge bribes and bribed a number of people. We also mainly targetted Party members and government officials displaying such behavior," he said.

Those who bribed in the country's important constructions, major projects as well as in key areas, such as personnel arrangement, judicial case handling, disaster relief, education and health, were also given higher attention in the fight, he said.

Additionally, people who carried out major business bribes were strictly punished, he added.

Furthermore, the top anti-corruption regulator issued a few guidelines with the country's judicial authorities and explored to establish a list of such bribe givers, in a bid to let them pay the price by disciplines, laws, administrative means, or through qualification restriction or market access system, according to him.

He said the authorities will further improve the accuracy and effectiveness of the fight against bribe givers. They will not only clarify the bribery problem and recover the bribery gains, but also protect legitimate rights of relevant enterprises and guarantee their normal operation.
