The People's Liberation Army has consistently been "an action-oriented force" in combating "Taiwan independence" and promoting reunification, a Chinese military spokesperson said on Sunday, criticizing the Democratic Progressive Party authorities in Taiwan for their recent efforts to provoke separatist actions.

Wu Qian, spokesman for the delegation of the PLA and the People's Armed Police at the third session of the 14th National People's Congress, made the remarks during an interview on Sunday.

The military authority in Taiwan recently claimed that the mainland is escalating its "military threat" in the Asia-Pacific and globally, openly challenging international order and undermining regional stability.

In addition, according to media reports in Taiwan, the island's military is considering the compulsory requirement for all eligible women to undergo military service. Besides, the island reportedly plans to purchase billions of dollars' worth of weapons from the United States.

Wu, who is also a spokesman for the Ministry of National Defense, said: "There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory." He also noted that the one-China principle is a widely recognized consensus in the international community.

In 1945, Taiwan returned to China's territory as a result of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45) and the World Anti-Fascist War, which is an undeniable historical fact, he said.

Wu pointed out that for some time, DPP authorities have intensified their "Taiwan independence" provocations by relying on the US and resisting reunification with arms, arousing indignation among compatriots on both sides of the Strait and which will inevitably be condemned by history and justice.

The Taiwan question is purely China's internal affair and brooks no external interference, the spokesman emphasized, noting that a few US-made weapons cannot change the doomed fate of "Taiwan independence".

He questioned: "What effect can the DPP authorities achieve by spending the hard-earned money of the people to buy weapons from their foreign masters? It's like a mantis trying to stop a chariot, which is of no use."

The official stressed that the reunification of the motherland is inevitable, driven by the trend of the times, moral righteousness, power dynamics and the will of the people.

The PLA has long been "an action-oriented force" in countering "Taiwan independence" separatism and promoting reunification, with regular patrols around the island and military deterrence becoming the norm in recent years, he said.

Wu issued a stern warning: "The more 'Taiwan independence' separatists clamor, the tighter the noose around their necks will become, and the sharper the sword above their heads will be. We sternly warn the DPP authorities: turn back before it's too late; persisting in your course will lead to a dead end."
