China warns external forces not to exploit Taiwan question
Vice-Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu warned on Friday that the handful of external forces seeking to exploit the Taiwan question to contain the mainland are playing with fire and will perish by it.
The Taiwan question is at the core of China's interests, and it is purely the country's internal affairs that brooks no external interference, Ma reiterated at a press conference.
This year also marks the 80th anniversary of the restoration of Taiwan. Taiwan's return to the motherland is a victorious outcome of World War II and an integral part of the postwar international order, Ma said.
The one-China principle is the universal consensus of the international community and a basic norm of international relations, he said, adding that it is also the political foundation and premise for China to establish and develop diplomatic relations with countries around the world.
The United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 completely blocked any possibility to create "two Chinas" or "one China, one Taiwan", and the resolution brooks no challenge, Ma said.
He noted that the international paradigm of upholding the one-China principle is further cemented the Chinese people's just cause of opposing "Taiwan independence" separatist activities and striving for national reunification has achieved widespread understanding and support.
The overwhelming trend of China's ultimate reunification is inevitable and unstoppable, he added.
