Peng Liyuan, wife of President Xi Jinping and a UNESCO special envoy for the advancement of girls' and women's education, has called for joint actions to empower women and girls with technology to bring them a future full of opportunities in the era of digital intelligence.

Peng made the remarks on Tuesday when addressing the opening ceremony of an exhibition showcasing China's progress in digital and intelligent empowerment of women and girls.

The exhibition was held in Beijing as a side event of the Global Leaders' Meeting on Women, and it was attended by Sima Sami Bahous, undersecretary-general of the United Nations and executive director of UN Women. Spouses of foreign leaders and heads of women's organizations also attended the event.

Peng noted that as technology races ahead, new-generation information technologies have become a new engine for women and girls to pursue their dreams.

She highlighted that China's push to develop digital and intelligent technologies is reshaping the lifestyles of women and girls, creating broader development opportunities for them in the era of digital intelligence.

Underlining that advancing women's development is a shared responsibility of the international community, Peng said that she looks forward to working with all others to usher in a future for women and girls full of opportunities in the era of digital intelligence, and to elevate the global advancement of women.

Bahous highly commended China's remarkable achievements in bridging the digital gender gap, promoting all-round development of women, and protecting women's rights and interests. She called on the international community to work together to empower women and girls to achieve all-round development in the era of digital intelligence.

Peng toured the exhibition together with domestic and international guests, and they watched a smart cloud classroom, a demonstration of robot-operated Rubik's Cube solving by Spring Bud Project girls, and traditional cultural shows, among other displays.

The Spring Bud Project is a welfare program mobilizing social forces to help dropout girls return to school, and to improve teaching conditions in poverty-stricken areas in China.
