Beijing has expressed hope that Japan would work with China to uphold the political foundation of bilateral ties, and jointly promote the sound and steady improvement and development of their relations in the right direction, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Wednesday.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday had a phone conversation with Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, noting that China had observed positive signals from Japan's new cabinet.

Motegi told Wang that China is an important neighbor of Japan, and Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi attaches great importance to the bilateral relations. He also reaffirmed that the Japanese side has no intention of decoupling or severing supply chains with the Chinese side.

"China values these statements and hopes that Japan will abide by the principles set out in the four political documents between the two countries," Guo told a daily news briefing.
