The People's Liberation Army concluded a round of live-fire shelling near the island of Taiwan as part of an ongoing military exercise.
Senior Captain Li Xi, a spokesman of the PLA Eastern Theater Command, said in a statement on Tuesday morning that at 9 am, the command's ground forces used long-range weapons to hit simulated targets in the waters to the north of the Taiwan Island.
He said the operation achieved desired effects but did not elaborate on the drill's details.
Earlier this morning, the command announced that its air and naval units conducted drills in the air and waters to the north and south of Taiwan.
