Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Friday that state-to-state cooperation should not target a third party or harm the interests of a third party, nor should it undermine regional peace and stability.

He made the remarks when asked to comment on a military logistics support agreement signed by Japan and the Philippines to deepen their defense ties.

Speaking at a daily news briefing, Guo said during World War II, Japan invaded the Philippines, bringing disaster to the Filipino people and soldiers of allied nations and brutally killing Chinese diplomatic and consular officials, adding that these historical facts must be remembered.

He noted that Southeast Asian countries and the international community have repeatedly voiced criticism of Japan's military and security moves.

Instead of reflecting on its actions and exercising restraint, Japan has fabricated excuses to expand its military capabilities, export lethal weapons, and strengthen its armed forces, he said.

This reveals the intention of Japan's right-wing forces to push for remilitarization and return to the old path of military expansion, he added.

Guo called on all peace-loving countries and peoples to resolutely oppose the resurgence of Japanese militarism and remilitarization, and safeguard regional peace and stability.
