Former senior Guizhou health official jailed for bribery
Yang Hui, a former senior health official in Guizhou province, was sentenced on Thursday in a first-instance judgment to 14 years and three months in prison for bribery, the Anshun Intermediate People's Court said.
The court found that Yang, former Communist Party secretary of the Guizhou provincial health commission, illegally accepted property worth more than 54.48 million yuan ($7.84 million).
She was fined 2 million yuan, while the court ordered that the proceeds from the bribery and any profit derived from them be confiscated and handed over to the state treasury.
The court said that, from 2017 to 2024, Yang abused her positions, including her role as Party secretary of the Guizhou Center for Disease Control and Prevention, to help related units and individuals obtain medical equipment, win project contracts and arrange personnel transfers.
After the verdict, Yang told the court she accepted the judgment and would not appeal.
