A luxury cruise ship has joined Shanghai's cruise fleet, making the city its official home port.

The 77,000-gross-ton vessel, Dream, set sail from the Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal on March 3, carrying its first group of passengers on a five-day, four-night voyage to South Korea.

The sailing marked the vessel's official debut with Shanghai as its home port, adding fresh momentum to the city's cruise economy.

A nameplate exchange ceremony was held on board to commemorate the partnership between the cruise operator and the Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal.

The vessel is now operated by Chengzhen Cruise Ship (Hong Kong) Corporation. Formerly known as Sea Princess and previously run by the US-based Carnival Corporation & plc, it was renamed Dream in January 2023 and underwent a comprehensive upgrade.

The ship now features 15 decks, about 1,000 cabins, and can accommodate up to 2,270 passengers.

On board, passengers can explore six themed experience zones offering dining, entertainment, and leisure. Highlights include a restaurant led by a Michelin-starred chef, a 550-seat theater, and a health and wellness center equipped with advanced facilities.

In the first half of 2026, the vessel is scheduled to operate 30 voyages from the Wusongkou terminal.

Chengzhen Cruise Ship (Hong Kong) Corporation established its regional operations headquarters, Shanghai True Cruise Corporation, in Baoshan district on Feb 3.

Baoshan has already attracted a number of leading cruise companies, including China Cruises, Adora Cruises, and MSC Cruises. Supporting businesses such as duty-free operators, cruise tourism service centers, and training institutions have contributed to the growth of a thriving cruise port cluster.
