Changan Automobile has started production at its new plant in Anapolis, Brazil, marking a major step in the company's global expansion strategy.

The highly automated facility, developed in partnership with CAOA Group, will serve as a regional hub for the Latin American market.

The first locally produced vehicle, the Changan UNI-T, rolled off the line at the ceremony on Thursday.

Designed specifically for Brazil, the model features the advanced 1.5 Turbo GDi BlueCore Flex engine, capable of running on gasoline, ethanol, or any combination of the two.

The plant's initial phase will produce three models covering conventional fuel, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrains, reflecting Changan's focus on energy diversification and market adaptation.

The Brazil facility represents a shift from "product export" to "industrial presence" in overseas markets.

By integrating local supply chains, creating jobs, and fostering talent development, Changan is embedding itself within the region's automotive ecosystem.

The move exemplifies a broader trend in Chinese automakers' global expansion, emphasizing technology transfer, system integration, and brand-building over simple product exports.

Changan cars are now available in 118 countries and regions. Its Avatr brand, launched internationally in 2024, has entered 40 markets to date.

In 2025, Changan recorded 637,000 units in overseas sales, up 19 percent year-on-year, accounting for more than 20 percent of its total sales of 2.91 million units.

With 76 factories worldwide, Changan's Brazil plant will complement existing overseas facilities, enabling regional synergy and reinforcing the global strategy.

Future plans include expanding hybrid and electric vehicle production, developing localized supply chains, and promoting green mobility solutions to support low-carbon and inclusive transportation systems in Latin America.
