Thousands Protest in Tokyo Over War and Militarization
Thousands of people took to the streets in Tokyo, protesting against the US-Israeli war on Iran and what they see as Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's dangerous push toward militarization. Yet inside Japan, there is near-total media silence.
The protests focused on two main issues.
·Condemning the US-Israeli war on Iran.
·Opposing the government's plans to expand military capabilities.
Recently, Prime Minister Takaichi vowed to revise Japan's postwar pacifist Constitution. Her administration has also relaxed restrictions on arms exports.
Many protesters also criticized Takaichi for appearing to cozy up to Donald Trump during her recent visit to the United States.
For many demonstrators, the message is clear: Japan's leaders should listen to their own people — not simply follow Washington's lead.?
