Lenovo's chairman donates 200m yuan to Shanghai Jiao Tong University
Shanghai Jiao Tong University has received a significant donation of 200 million yuan ($29 million) from Yang Yuanqing, chairman and CEO of Lenovo and an alumnus of the school, in his personal capacity, ahead of the 130th anniversary of the university's founding.
Meanwhile, Lenovo has entered into a new strategic partnership with the university, committing 300 million yuan over the next five years.
At the donation ceremony on Monday, Yang, an alumnus of the university's 1981 computer science undergraduate class, said that his personal contribution will support research innovation and talent development in the university's artificial intelligence disciplines, aiming to help his alma mater cultivate more world-class AI talent.
The new strategic collaboration between Lenovo and the university will focus on research collaboration, talent cooperation, and investment incubation over the next five years.
This marks the third time Yang has personally donated to support the university's development. In 2021, he contributed 100 million yuan to establish what was then the most powerful scientific computing center among Chinese universities at the university.
This research powerhouse has to date supported over 1,200 research projects and facilitated the publication of more than 1,100 high-level papers, establishing itself as a leading computing platform both domestically and internationally for scientific research.
