As sustainability becomes a growing priority for businesses worldwide, the next stage of environmental, social and governance development will depend more on execution than commitments, an industry expert said.

Zhang Yongzhi, a US-based marketing strategy professional in the energy management and sustainability sector, said many companies still face challenges in turning ESG goals into operational decisions.

"In many organizations, ESG is still treated as a reporting framework rather than a decision system," Zhang said. "The challenge is not awareness, but execution."

Zhang said data analytics can play a greater role in helping companies connect sustainability targets with business planning, market analysis and resource allocation.

Drawing on her experience in sales leadership and strategic planning, Zhang developed ZhiXu ESG, or IntelliSustain, a data-driven decision-support software framework for evaluating the impact of sustainable investment.

The framework is designed to integrate market intelligence, account-level analysis and cross-functional data, providing companies with information that can be used in business strategy and operational planning.

Unlike ESG tools that focus mainly on compliance and disclosure, Zhang said decision-support systems should help companies embed sustainability metrics into regular workflows, including account planning, market evaluation and investment assessment.

Analysts said data-driven ESG systems are becoming more relevant as companies seek to improve transparency, allocate resources more efficiently and strengthen long-term resilience.

"There is growing recognition that sustainability needs to be integrated into core business processes," Zhang said. "Data-driven systems can help make that integration scalable and consistent."

She said the future of ESG development will increasingly depend on whether companies can measure outcomes and link sustainability practices with business performance.

"As ESG continues to evolve, the focus will shift from commitments to implementation," Zhang said. "The goal is to build systems that enable organizations to translate sustainability into measurable and lasting impact."
