The 2026 United Nations Chinese Language Day celebration was held at the Palace of Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, on April 20. In the intangible cultural heritage (ICH) interactive exhibition area, handwoven fabric from Haimen district, Nantong, made a stunning debut as part of China's rich traditional culture.

The UN Chinese Language Day is an official international cultural event of high prestige, authority and global influence, serving as a vital platform to celebrate the Chinese language and share the essence of Chinese culture. 

The exhibited products were created by Huayuxiu, a home textile company based in Haimen. Rooted in the traditional weaving techniques of Haimen's ICH handwoven fabric, the company innovates while staying true to tradition and pursues development through active inheritance, bringing Haimen's local ICH to the UN stage for the first time. 

The items included zodiac-themed pillows featuring the dragon and horse, along with handcrafted carvings and cultural ornaments. Each piece blends Chinese elegance with practical design. 

At the event, these ICH works captivated many international visitors. "They were very interested in seeing works that represent the beauty of traditional Chinese art," said Zheng Wen, manager of Huayuxiu. "Their high recognition of traditional Chinese craftsmanship, pattern aesthetics and cultural wisdom has greatly encouraged us." 

Looking ahead, Huayuxiu plans to expand its product lines, develop new cultural items that are both practical and visually appealing, and bring handwoven fabric art closer to younger consumers and broader markets.
