Sichuan crash kills one, leaves several injured

One person was killed and 11 others injured in a traffic accident on Friday afternoon in Chengdu Hi-Tech Zone, Sichuan province, local police said.
The accident happened at about 5:20 pm when a car collided with pedestrians at the intersection of Jiannan Avenue and Tianfu Fourth Street.
The driver then fled the scene and crashed into other vehicles and pedestrians, according to a statement released by the Chengdu Public Security Bureau’s traffic management department.
The driver, a 31-year-old man surnamed Li, was apprehended, the statement said.
Tests have ruled out alcohol or drug use.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
