The second phase of the 1.2 million-kilowatt on-site consumption project of the 6 million-kW Ulaanqab wind power base began construction on May 10, marked by the first concrete pouring for the foundation of a booster substation.

The base is the world's largest single-site onshore wind power project and the first large-scale, grid-parity renewable energy demonstration project approved by China's National Energy Administration.

Located in Siziwang Banner, the site benefits from high-quality and stable wind resources. It will include two wind farms: the 700,000 kW Dabanliang wind farm and the 500,000 kW Honggeer wind farm.

The project will install three 4.5-megawatt turbines, 55 8.3-MW turbines, and 73 10-MW high-capacity onshore wind turbines, supported by booster substations, collector systems, transmission works, and auxiliary infrastructure.

The project is being carried out under the leadership of State Power Investment Corporation Limited's Inner Mongolia Company.

Once completed and fully operational, the second phase is expected to generate around 3 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually, replacing approximately 900,000 metric tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 2.46 million tons per year.

It will also significantly reduce emissions of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter, contributing to the regional low-carbon energy transition.

The project is also expected to stimulate development in equipment manufacturing, construction, and operation-and-maintenance services, while creating local employment opportunities and contributing to regional economic growth.
