Chinese battery maker BAK Battery showcased its latest solid-state, cylindrical and energy-storage batteries at the just concluded 2026 China International Battery Fair, as the industry increasingly shifts focus from price competition toward product quality and technological differentiation.

According to research firm EVTank, global lithium-ion battery shipments reached 2,280.5GWh in 2025, with China accounting for nearly 83 percent of the total. Chinese regulators have also recently called on battery makers to curb irrational price competition and strengthen quality oversight.

Against that backdrop, BAK positioned its latest lineup at the fair around safety, fast charging and long-cycle durability across applications ranging from consumer electronics to electric vehicles and energy storage.

One of the company's key focuses was semi-solid-state battery technology, which it sees as a way to improve safety at the materials level.

BAK displayed semi-solid-state cells for drones, premium electric two-wheelers and portable electronics, including a standard 5,000mAh consumer battery.

In cylindrical batteries, BAK showcased several 21700-series products targeting power tools, EVs, eVTOL aircraft and robotics.

Its high-nickel 21700-65E cell reaches an energy density of 315Wh/kg, while the 2170-50D2 supports 60A continuous discharge across temperatures from minus 20 degrees Celsius to 80 degrees Celsius.

Its 21700-45M cylindrical cell passed China's latest national battery safety tests, including nail penetration and overcharge testing.

For energy storage, BAK unveiled several prismatic lithium iron phosphate batteries, including a 230Ah cell capable of charging from 10 percent to 80 percent in 15 minutes and a 314Ah semi-solid-state battery offering more than 10,000 charge cycles.

The company is also expanding into sodium-ion batteries, introducing a 150Ah prismatic cell with a cycle life exceeding 20,000 cycles.

BAK said the technology offers advantages in low-temperature environments and could help reduce energy-storage costs in colder regions.
