Huawei Technologies Co and Chinese automaker Chery have officially launched their first multi-purpose vehicle, or MPV, the Luxeed V9, as part of a strategic push to capture high-end commercial and family buyers in an increasingly competitive market.

Yu Chengdong, chairman of Huawei's terminal business group, said the Luxeed V9 is among the first to upgrade to Huawei's Qiankun Autonomous Driving System (ADS) 5.0.

The car is equipped with 38 sensors, enabling on-demand activation of the ADS, which can autonomously assess road scenarios and perform maneuvers such as honking, flashing lights and deceleration.

Chery Chairman Yin Tongyue described Luxeed as the group's highest-level strategic priority and a specially supported "strategic special zone". Chery has invested over 20 billion yuan ($2.76 billion) in the project, and together with Huawei, the partnership holds more than 30,000 relevant patents.
