National statistics bureau releases population survey results
China's total population stood at 1.4 billion in 2025, with an average household size of 2.52 people, according to the results of a nationwide population sample survey released by the National Bureau of Statistics on Friday.
The nation had 717.2 million males, about 51.03 percent of the total population, and 688.2 million females, in 2025.
People aged 14 and younger accounted for 15.25 percent of the total population, while those aged 15 to 59 made up 61.89 percent. People aged 60 and older represented 22.86 percent, including those aged 65 and above, who accounted for 15.87 percent.
The number of people with a university-level education reached 272.33 million, and 242.72 million had a senior high school education.
Nearly 68 percent of people live in urban areas, with the remaining 32 percent in rural areas. The total migrant population stood at 357.88 million.
