To innovate the application of legal frameworks for commercial mediation and enhance the international business environment, a cross-border cooperation roundtable was held in Shanghai on Tuesday, bringing together experts from judicial administration, dispute resolution, commercial law, and international trade sectors from China and Singapore.

Guided by the Shanghai Council for the Promotion of International Trade, and jointly hosted by Singapore International Mediation Centre and the Shanghai International Commercial Mediation Center, the event focused on the implementation of the Regulation on Commercial Mediation that just became effective this month, cross-border mechanism collaboration, and support for businesses expanding internationally.

Through simulated exercises, specialized discussions, and interactive exchanges, participants explored new pathways for the high-quality development of commercial mediation in the new era. The aim is to position Shanghai as a preferred hub for legal services in resolving commercial disputes across the Asia-Pacific.

Looking ahead, Singapore International Mediation Centre and the Shanghai International Commercial Mediation Center plan to establish a regular cooperative mechanism between Shanghai and Singapore to enhance cross-border dispute resolution capabilities and improve the quality and efficiency of international legal services, thereby supporting Shanghai's high-level opening-up and international legal framework development.

Chuan Wee Meng, CEO of Singapore International Mediation Centre, said that he believes this collaboration reinforces the strong relationship between Singapore and Shanghai, and shows that the two sides want more win-win solutions for everybody.

"We would benefit from seeking common ground and leveraging our strengths, and there is ample room for collaboration," he said.
