Foshan's century-old football legacy takes center stage
Sanshui, a district of Foshan in South China's Guangdong province, connected with the global football world more than 100 years ago and it has never stopped chasing the game.
From a British football team's visit in 1925 to the district's first provincial championship in 1947, and from the birth of the Foshan "Xijia" Football League (a grassroots top-division-style tournament whose name shares the same pronunciation as Spain's La Liga in Chinese) in the 1970s to a youth academy partnership with English Premier League side Arsenal in 2024 – the district's football journey just keeps on rolling.
Now, the 2026 Guangdong Provincial City Football Super League is heating up. On May 30, Foshan will take on Maoming at Sanshui's Yunxiushan Stadium.
