US President Donald Trump has deferred making a final decision on a truce with Iran after a meeting with advisers on Friday amid reports he was requesting several amendments to a deal his envoys negotiated.

Trump wants the deal and expects to finalize it soon, but was keen to strengthen several points, particularly regarding Iran's nuclear program, according to a report by United States media outlet Axios. Trump also wants to edit wordings around the full opening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Citing two sources, Axios reported that Trump asked his team to make changes to the draft on clauses about Iran's nuclear program. Currently, the memorandum of understanding is said to include a commitment from Iran not to pursue a nuclear weapon, but no specific concessions beyond that.

It also states that there will be a 60-day window to negotiate on nuclear commitments from Iran and sanctions relief from the US, with the first issues on the docket being how to dispose of Iran's enriched uranium stockpile and limit further enrichment, the report said.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said at a Singapore forum on Saturday that Trump was "patient" and wanted to make a "great deal" that ensures Iran does not get a nuclear weapon.

The US was ready to restart attacks on Iran if a deal could not be reached, he said, adding that US stockpiles were "in a very good place".

"We can do two things at one time. We're supercharging our defense industrial base so that we're building 2X, 3X, 4X the munitions very soon to ensure that all of our (operation) plans are properly funded throughout the world," he said.

On Sunday, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced their interception and destruction of a US MQ-1 drone that entered Iranian territory early in the morning, the Mehr News Agency reported.

Following the interception, the IRGC Air Defense issued a direct warning: Iranian airspace over the country's territorial waters is under full control, and any incursion will be met with a decisive response.

The IRGC warned on Saturday that any US interference in the "management" of the Strait of Hormuz would be met with a "strict military response".

Situation in strait

According to recordings from a public maritime radio channel provided to Xinhua News Agency by crew members aboard vessels stranded near the strait, the IRGC Navy issued a warning to ships operating in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.

The IRGC stated that the strait remains closed and that transit is permitted only with authorization from the IRGC Navy and through routes designated by Iran.

The warning added that any violations of the regulations would seriously jeopardize maritime security.

In a video broadcast on state television, Iran's chief negotiator, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on Sunday that Tehran will not agree to any deal with the United States that fails to secure the rights of the Iranian people.

On Friday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said reaching a final agreement hinges on the US abandoning its expansionist approach and its shifting, contradictory positions.

In a phone call with his Omani counterpart, Araghchi also stressed that Iran remains serious and steadfast in pursuing its rightful interests and legitimate rights.

Agencies and Xinhua contributed to this story.
