Many young people in China aren't "lying flat" — they've simply embraced a lifestyle that is different from their parents'. In a recent interview with China Daily's Dialogues with Thinkers, Wang Yuehan, a visiting fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science, cited the booming stand-up comedy scene as an example.

She noted that a new ethos is emerging among China's younger generation in response to a changed social landscape: many of them are no longer working solely for survival, instead they are turning their passions into their careers.

Having interviewed numerous successful Chinese entrepreneurs, Wang observed that the entrepreneurs who succeed are often those who persist in what they love — succeeding through relentless dedication and sustained action. (Reporter Yao Yuxin, Video Pan Yixuan, Intern Xia Mudi)
