An exhibit celebrating the legacy and future of the Changsha kiln, a thousand-year-old ceramic heritage, opened on Sunday at the Tongguan Kiln Museum in Hunan province.
The Changsha kiln is believed by some to be the birthplace of the world's underglaze polychrome porcelain. It's history dates back 1,200 years. For centuries, ceramic wares made by local artisans traveled across the seas as commodities on the Maritime Silk Road, becoming a symbol of cross-cultural exchange. In 2011, the kiln's ceramic-making technique was recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage.
