China had 168.03 million motor vehicles through September, up 8.26 million, or 5.17 percent, from last year's figure for the same period, the Ministry of Public Security said on Wednesday.

Private motor vehicles rose by 6.11 million and made up 75.99 percent of the country's total motor vehicles, statistics from the ministry's traffic administration showed. Private cars totaled 40.18 million, up 13.71 percent over the previous year

Through September, the country had 175.63 million drivers, up 7.17 percent from 2007.
