Beijing Hyundai to show new Sonata in Shanghai

Beijing Hyundai will showcase a face-lift of Sonata model at the 2009 Shanghai auto show this month.

The new Sonata model, code-named BT01 inside Beijing Hyundai, was revamped to cater to Chinese consumers based on EF Sonata, a model introduced by the carmaker in 2004.

BT01 was developed by the technical centre under Beijing Hyundai, with its design and most of R&D tests completed in China, sources said. The BT01 is likely to come under Hyundai brand, said a senior official from Beijing Hyundai.

The new model reportedly will go on sale next month. Beijing Hyundai expects BT01 to meet the family car market demand in part, and also expand its share in public and commercial car market of tier 2 cities.

Beijing Hyundai, Hyundai's Chinese joint venture company, sold 41,881 vehicles in March.
