China's photovoltaic (PV) solar cell industry will continue to grow and the domestic use of PV systems will accelerate, despite the impact of trade disputes, high-ranking officials and experts said here on Monday.
A trade complaint filed against China by a group of solar companies drew skeptical reviews from inside the industry, with many fearing a trade war could disrupt growth.
China, the world's largest solar panel exporter, is likely to boast 10 gigawatts (gW) of solar power capacity by 2015 from the current 1 gW, doubling its existing target amid rising doubts about the safety of nuclear power.
California, one of the greenest states in the US, has become a major destination for Chinese solar companies.
"The United States' solar photovoltaic (PV) industry will undergo a period of rapid development in 2011 and the number of products our company supplies to the US market will be doubled," said Gao Jifan, chief executive officer of Trina Solar Ltd, a Chinese leading solar PV manufacturer.
First Solar Inc, a US-based renewable energy company, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with China Guangdong Nuclear Solar Energy Development Co Ltd (CGN SEDC) on Wednesday to jointly develop the world's largest solar power plant.
