Shenhua says Q1 coal production up, but sales steady

China Shenhua Energy Co, the country's biggest coal producer, said on Tuesday its commercial coal production rose 16 percent in the first quarter but sales were steady.

The company produced 51.8 million tons of commercial coal in the first three months of 2009, up from 44.6 million tons in the same period last year, it said in a statement.

But coal sales rose just 0.5 percent to 57 million tons, as exports fell 13 percent in the three-month period to 4 million tons.
