China, Ecuador to further trade cooperation

China and Ecuador have broad prospects in enhancing cooperation in resources, finance, technology and market, which will be conducive not only to facilitating the recovery of their own economies but also to contributing to the rebounding of the world economy, China's top political advisor said on Tuesday.

Jia Qinglin, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, made the remarks when addressing the opening session of the China-Ecuador Entrepreneurs' Symposium on Investment Cooperation.

Jia hailed the rapid strengthening of commercial ties between the two countries, noting that bilateral trade volume rose to nearly $2.4 billion in 2008, 400 times more than in the 1980s when diplomatic relations were established.

Ecuador has become a main investment destination of Chinese enterprises in Latin America, and it offers excellent political-social environment for Chinese investors due to the traditional friendship between the two countries, he said.

Jia also said China is willing to make joint efforts with Ecuador to optimize trade structure for a more sustainable development of economic and trade cooperation.

Jia encouraged well-qualified Chinese enterprises to broaden cooperation in investment, and called on both governments to provide consultation and information services as well as to offer financial support.

Being economically complementary to each other, China and Ecuador have ample room for further collaboration, Jia said.

The top political advisor said that besides traditional sectors like energy, engineering and technology, agriculture, infrastructures, innovative cooperation will also be expanded to such sectors as finance, tourism and science technology.

China is ready to work together with Ecuador to push the development of bilateral relations to a higher level, building on the upcoming 30th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral ties next year.

For his part, Ecuadorian Vice President Lenin Moreno highly praised China's impressive achievements in all fields, citing as examples the Beijing Olympic Games and the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China .

Ecuador hopes to promote cooperation with China so as to push forward the bilateral ties, he added.

Jia, who is on a four-nation trip, began his official good-will visit to Ecuador on Monday. He has visited the Philippines and Peru, and will travel to Brazil on Wednesday.
