Official urges better development of cultural sector

NANJING -- Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong has urged efforts be undertaken to promote the development of the country's cultural sector.

Liu made the remarks during her inspection tour in east China's Jiangsu province.

Reform and innovation in the cultural sector will create a strong momentum to advance the sector's development, Liu said.

Also, efforts to boost the cultural sector will help promote the nation's comprehensive power, as well as economic and social development, she said, adding that the focus of the efforts should be on promoting the public cultural services and products which cater to the urban and rural residents at grassroots levels.

Liu also called for more efforts to integrate the cultural sector with the economy, as well as the technology and education industries.
