To showcase the unique design language and cutting-edge intelligent technologies of new S-Class to Chinese consumers, Mercedes-Benz held a full-day experiential TecDay at the Himalayas Museum in Shanghai.

It highlighted the model's intelligent drive, luxurious appointments, efficiency and performance by combining a workshop and several interactive exhibits.

It also stimulated the senses through hearing, sight, touch and smell, bringing the car's innovative new features to life.

"I have no doubt: This is the beginning of the next exciting chapter in the great success story of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class," said Thomas Hellmuth, global head of the S-Class project.

"To make this great effort possible, the All New S-Class needs true experts in all fields of the vehicle development. I am very proud that we have top talent in these fields in my team to make the All New S-Class trully the best car in the world," said Hellmuth.

Seeing the importance of China market, BMBS invited Hans-Dieter Futschik, head of Exterior Design, Sabine Engelhardt, who developed the unique S-Class fragrances, Uwe Kostanzer, responsible for lighting technology and Christoph von Hugo, expert on Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive from its German headquarters to Shanghai TecDay to communicate design details with Chinese visitors.

The smell exhibit showed how the Air-Balance package uses an active fragrance system, ionization and efficient filtration to improve air quality.

The touch segment demonstrated the best-in-class 43.5-degree backrest angle of the executive seat, which can achieve a full prone position when combined with the folding chauffeur seat in front.

Through the hearing exhibit, visitors were impressed by the S-Class' Burmester surround sound system that uses cutting-edge technology including sound optimization for the front and rear seats to ensure an extraordinarily expressive and natural sound.

To delight their sense of sight, the chief designer of the S-Class walked with guests around an S-Class displayed in ambient lighting and explained how the exterior of this new model sets design trends for Mercedes-Benz.

The S-Class sense room then went beyond the human senses to show how S-Class innovations elevate driving to a whole new level.

Through aerodynamic and aero-acoustic features, the new S-Class is super-smooth and super-quiet with a best-in-class drag coefficient of 0.24, as well as a virtually imperceptible noise level inside the car.

The S 400 L Hybrid car shows off the model's class-leading efficiency coupled with outstanding performance. With its compact hybrid module, the new S 400 L Hybrid is 20 percent more fuel efficient than its predecessor and lowers CO2 emissions to 164g per km, a new segment record.

Stepping into the lighting exhibit for the model's LED Intelligent Light System, participants see that the Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus makes it possible for the first time to drive with high beams switched on permanently without dazzling oncoming traffic, while Night View Assist Plus with spotlight flash and pop-up functions makes driving at night significantly safer.

And its Dreamoc demonstrates how Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive fuses safety and comfort with a large number of new and optimized assistance systems.
