Official who showed up at work in shorts fired

An official of the shipping administration bureau of Haikou, Hainan province, was fired because he showed up at work wearing a pair of shorts on Monday.

Xu, a deputy section chief of the bureau, was reported by a shipping logistics firm, where the official was on a law-enforcement inspection visit.

The bureau decided to sack Xu in a bid to "raise the bureau's image following a high-level emergency meeting.
