Russia's ruling party plans V-Day celebration in Georgia

MOSCOW - Russia's ruling party, United Russia, plans to celebrate Victory Day for the World War II veterans who live in the former Soviet republic of Georgia, an official said Thursday.
The party will lay a wreath at the war memorial of Tbilisi, Georgia's capital, after a reception on Friday, the Itar-Tass new agency reported.

About 700,000 Georgians fought in the Soviet army against German troops during the World War II and half of them died in the war.
Georgia and Russia fought a brief war in August 2008. In 2009, a World War II memorial in the Georgian town of Kutaisi was demolished by local authorities.
Georgia is the only former Soviet republic that has not received an invitation to participate in the May 9 Victory Day parade on Moscow's Red Square.
