SIEM REAP, Cambodia - During his stay in Seoul for the Nuclear Security Summit, Chinese President Hu Jintao has not only underscored China's positive attitude toward boosting international cooperation on the issue, but also offered proposals for concrete actions in this regard, said Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi on Monday.

Yang, who has been accompanying President Hu on the trip that took him to South Korea, India and Cambodia, said the Chinese president has elaborated on China's policies and concrete measures over the issue of nuclear security when delivering a speech at the Seoul summit held on March 26-27.

President Hu said in his speech that China will earnestly honor its international nuclear security obligations and step up nuclear security efforts.

Hu also said China will make efforts to build the Center of Excellence in China into a regional center that will serve as a platform for training and technological exchanges.

China will continue its contribution to the IAEA Nuclear Security Fund and help other countries with the needs for the conversion of Highly Enriched Uranium (HEU) research reactors as well, Hu said.

Yang noted that the opinions and stance by China over the issue of nuclear security have received positive responses from parties to the Seoul summit and have been sufficiently presented in the communique of the summit.

The participants spoke highly of China's unremitting efforts and outstanding achievements in the field of nuclear energy and nuclear security. They also reaffirmed the important role China has played in promoting international nuclear security, Yang said.

Leaders or representatives from 53 nations and four international organizations attended the Seoul summit, aimed at enhancing security of nuclear materials and related facilities.

After his stay in Seoul, the Chinese president attended a summit of five major emerging economies in New Delhi, India and then paid a state visit to Cambodia.
