Since 1979, the steel industry in China has quadrupled its output. In 1996, the output of crude steel surpassed 100 million, ranking the first in the world for the first time. In 2010, the output of crude steel reached 630 million; the output of 10 kinds of non-ferrous metal reached 31.35 million tons. The output of copper accounted for more than 20 percent of world total. The output of aluminum, lead and zinc each accounted for one third of the world total.
