People should apply for a new ID card if their appearance has notably changed due to major weight loss or plastic surgery, the police station in Jiangning district in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, said on its Sina micro blog on Thursday, Modern Express reported.

The comment came after a woman asked the police station online for help.

She said she was kicked out of an exam because the teacher thought she was cheating as she had lost a lot of weight and looked different than her ID card picture, which was taken eight years ago.

The police station suggested she apply for a new ID card, so that the police could take a new photo for her.

People who have had plastic surgery should also apply for a new ID card if the photo on their ID card is significantly different.

“Five to 10 people come to us every day for a new ID card because they have undergone plastic surgery,” said Li Kejian, a police officer in Nanjing.
