Guangdong-based Chimelong Group Co, one of the leading tourist complex operators in China, will build a new facility featuring rare animals and plants in Qingyuan, in the northern part of Guangdong province, according to the company.

The project will include an investment of up to 30 billion yuan ($4.69 billion), attracting more than 10 million visitors annually after its completion, according to the company.

Chimelong, which has already developed safari and water parks in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province, and ocean-themed and circus facilities in Zhuhai, gained exposure by helping nurture the world’s first giant panda triplets, were born in the safari park on July 29 last year.

The new facility in Qingyuan, about one hour’s drive from Guangzhou, will include a planting base and gene data base of the world’s rare animals and plants, as well as other cultural and hotel facilities, according to the company.

A giant panda base and a South China Tiger protection center will also be built at the Qingyuan facility.
