Reading masterpieces helps think better

Zhou Zhanping, Beijing's top scorer in science in 2016 gaokao, highlighted the importance of reading classics.

"Reading classics can make readers think more about what they read. And the more people read, the deeper they think. As for students, a good thinking habit naturally brings them a better understanding of stories and articles," said Zhou, who got into the habit of reading famous novels in primary schools.

Instead of burying his head in questions, Zhou spent more time thinking why he should use this method rather than that method to solve certain math question. Zhou said, "It's the thinking after solving a question that matters much in making progress."

The book Zhou read recently is called The Ordinary World, whose author is Lu Yao, a contemporary Chinese writer.

As for the summer holiday, Zhou said: "I will read more books to enrich myself during the holiday and plan a travel."
