Foreign Minister Wang Yi sent a message of condolence to his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday over the death of Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov.

Wang said that China condemns strongly the barbarian terrorist attack on the diplomat and opposes firmly all forms of terrorism.

He said China is ready, together with the international community, to lend firm support to Russia in its efforts to strike hard at terrorism, and hopes to strengthen counter-terrorism cooperation.

Karlov was shot dead by a gunman at an exhibition in the Turkish capital Ankara on Monday evening.
