China opens embassy in Commonwealth of Dominica
China opened its embassy in the Commonwealth of Dominica on Wednesday, three months after the two countries established diplomatic relations on March 23, according to reports from the Dominican capital, Roseau. Dominican President Nicholas Liverpool, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, Speaker of the House Assembly Alix Boyd-Knight and Foreign Minister Osborne Riviere attended the opening ceremony presided over by Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhou Wenzhong. Addressing the opening ceremony, Zhou said the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries is a big event of far-reaching significance, which brings the China-Dominica ties to a new phase. The establishment of the bilateral ties is not only in the fundamental and long-term interest of the two countries and their peoples, but also conducive to unity and cooperation among developing countries, Zhou said. China will honor its commitment to carry out the agreed pacts with Dominica, Zhou said, adding that the country will strengthen cooperation with Dominica in various fields. Moreover, Zhou said China is willing to strengthen cooperation with Caribbean countries, including the Commonwealth of Dominica, to make active efforts to build a peaceful and prosperous world and to establish a new, just and fair international political and economic order. While congratulating on the opening of the Chinese Embassy, Skerrit expressed the hope that the two countries could strengthen technical cooperation in fields such as agriculture, food processing, the light industry and tourism. The Chinese government's aid to Dominica will bring the country to a fast-developing track, Skerrit said, adding that his people will always cherish the help. |
