A villager looks into a sinkhole in a mining area of Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, on Aug 19, 2011. The ground had begun to show signs of collapse from late July, 2011. Yuan Chunqing, a deputy of the National People's Congress and Party chief of Shanxi, said the province will conduct monitoring of sinkholes in coal mining areas at a cost of 24 billion yuan.
