China, US energy firms' co-op mutually beneficial

2011-01-19 13:47

WASHINGTON - Constructive cooperation between Chinese and US companies will boost bilateral economic partnership and create more common interests, Chinese and US energy entrepreneurs told Xinhua Tuesday.

"Practical cooperation between the firms from two countries like us would not only create more common interests for the companies themselves, but is also a boon for the two countries and the world as a whole," said Wang Yusuo, chairman of ENN, a leading Chinese private energy company. He said this on the sidelines of the ongoing Second US-China Strategic Forum On Clean Energy Cooperation.

"We have been cooperating for several years on a variety of projects. Duke is very committed to sharing technology with Chinese companies. We are great partners with ENN, and we have found win-win ways to work together," said James Rogers, chairman and CEO of US electric power giant Duke Energy, a Fortune 500 company.

Cooperation between the two is bound to be mutually beneficial, with ?Duke Energy's big market and ENN's innovation capabilities, Rogers said.

ENN, pioneering innovative technologies that provide clean energy solutions, is constructing China's first smart energy eco-city in Langfang, Hebei province, adjacent to Beijing.

Duke will collaborate and share knowledge with ENN in developing the eco-city and adapt what is learned from the eco-city development as it deploys energy technologies in one or more cities in its US service territories in the future.

The two companies' shared vision for a "green" city encompasses electricity produced via cleaner technologies, energy storage, energy efficiency, and electric vehicle infrastructure.

The two companies inked an agreement on Tuesday entitled "Future Energy Technology Demonstration Platform" in an effort to promote the joint development of technologies to help build green cities in China and the United States.

Chinese and US business executives joined government leaders in a signing ceremony Tuesday with a host of important business cooperation agreements sealed among energy and power giants from both nations, including ENN Group, China Huaneng, China Shenhua Energy Company, Duke Energy, American Electric Power (AEP), and General Electric (GE), among others.

"This partnership is not only a stepping stone for cleaner energy in China and the United States. ENN Group and Duke Energy's cooperation will lead to the development of new, cleaner ways to produce, store, distribute and use energy for the benefit of the world," Wang said.

"Companies from the two nations are all committed to providing consumers with electricity in the most affordable, reliable, and cleanest way. Collaboration benefits to each of our companies would be so much," Rogers said.

The two-day forum kicked off in the US capital of Washington Tuesday, bringing together more than 200 government leaders, business executives and experts from both countries to discuss an array of energy topics.
