Nature's most precious element from Iceland

China Daily | Updated: 2013-09-27 07:03

In a world that is increasingly polluted, naturally occurring pure drinking water is a rare and precious commodity, and Iceland is home to some of the purest spring water available today.

Jon Olfasson, chairman of Icelandic Water Holdings, draws the water used in the company's Icelandic Glacial brand from the lfus Spring in Hlidarendi, to the south of Reykjavik.

"Our bodies are 70 percent water. To ensure our well-being, it is vital that we stay hydrated. But there is water, and then there is water," Olfasson said.

China is a key growth market for Icelandic Glacial, he said.

"We see such huge growth potential for our natural spring water in the market. We are strengthening our presence in China and establishing strong partnerships there."

Replenished by rainfall and melting water over spectacular lava fields, Icelandic Glacial brand water is among the purest bottled waters in the industry.

With an uncommonly high, naturally occurring alkalinic pH level of 8.4, Icelandic Glacial is so pure that nothing needs to be added or taken away, he said.

To further ensure its purity, filtration and ultraviolet disinfection provide additional levels of safety and quality.

The water flows directly from the 5,000-year-old lfus Spring into a state-of-the-art bottling plant driven by geothermal and hydroelectric power.

The filling process takes place in a clean environment, and the operations and final product are certified CarbonNeutral.

The first time Icelandic Glacial comes into contact with open air is when the seal on the iconic "Glacier" bottle is opened. Studies have shown that the regular intake of water cleanses the system and acts as a natural moisturizer for the skin.

In fact, the Dior Asian Innovation Center discovered that Icelandic Glacial has rare properties, which counteract acidity.

The French luxury goods company now uses Icelandic Glacial in its "Diorsnow" range of cosmetics.

In addition to operations in Singapore, Icelandic Water Holdings established partnerships with Hitejinro in South Korea and Brewberry in Thailand this year.

With China's growing middle class and increasing demand for quality goods, Icelandic Glacial is undoubtedly set to make a splash in this huge market.
