1st July, 2007 would have been the 46th birthday of Diana, Princess of Wales. 2007 also sees the 10th anniversary of heruntimely deathin a car accident.
Her two sons Prince William and Prince Harry were very keento markthese two occasions in some way, so theycame up with the ideaof a concert.
They wanted a happy event to celebrate her life and a special concertin memory oftheir mother, featuring her favourite bands, seemed the right way to do it.
The concert took place on 1st July at thebrand newWembley Stadium. 63,000 peopleturned upto see the six-hour show, which wasbroadcastto 140 countries around the world. 14.8 million people in the UK alonetuned into watch theextravaganza.
Elton John, who also played at Diana's funeral, opened the show with hishitYour Song.A host of other starsappeared including Rod Stewart, P Diddy, Nelly Furtado and Take Thatto name but a few.
There was also a performance from the English National Ballet and stars also performed songs from famous Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals.
The princes watched the concert with their friends and they were seenon their feetdancing, clapping and singing throughout the show.
Prince William and Harrytook to the stagetowards the beginning of the show to introduce what was their mother's favourite band, 1980s stars Duran Duran.
They also came back at the end of the concert to thank everyone who helped to celebrate Diana's life with them. William told thecrowdit had been "the most perfect way to remember her, and this is how she would want to be remembered."
Nelson Mandela,formerBritishPrime MinisterTony Blair and others recordedvideo tributesand the concert ended with videofootagefrom Diana's childhood.Proceedsfrom the concert will go to charities the Princess supported when she was alive.
