A report highlighting innovation and entrepreneurship in the core area of Zhongguancun in 2016 and summarizing improvements in its innovative ability and high-grade economic structure was recently released at the People's Political Consultative Conference of Haidian District.
Eight goals of Zhongguancun's innovation and entrepreneurship in 2016 are listed in the report, including constructing new collaborative innovation models for cooperation between universities and high-tech enterprises, establishing a complete marketing financial system for innovation and entrepreneurship, building a global innovative network and accelerating promotion of innovative achievements to be used in people's daily lives.
According to the report, the total income of the park by the end of 2016 is expected to reach 1.8 trillion yuan ($258.96 billion), or 40 percent of the entire demonstration zone. There are more than 11,000 technological enterprises in Zhongguancun, of which over 6,151 are national level high-tech firms, accounting for 10 percent of the total high-tech companies in China.
The report also shows that the park's "unicorn enterprises" -- companies with more than one billion dollars' market assessment -- accounted for 54 percent of the entire nation's unicorn companies in 2016.
In terms of future development, the Haidian Science Park of Zhongguancun intends to focus on the construction of Zhongguancun Science City and a regional innovation eco-system. It will also improve its innovative ability in developing advanced technological skills, training of strategic emerging industries and clustering of international talents.
