An invention patent of Chen Jian, a professor of the School of Biotechnology of Jiangnan University, has recently won a gold medal at the 16th session of the China Patent Award, organized by the State Intellectual Property Office.

The patent can be applied to fields such as medicine, food, and cosmetics, to reduce enterprises' environmental pollution and energy consumption. "The patent was authorized by the State Intellectual Property Office in 2010, and has helped domestic enterprises obtain a total economic growth of a several thousand", said Chen.

He went on to explain, a Japanese enterprise came to purchase the patent, which was the first time a foreign enterprise would purchase China's invention patent technology of biological fermentation since 1908.

Binhu district, with 10,109 patent applications last year, has been increasing its funds to encourage enterprises' IP application, protection and management.
