The governor of Fujian has praised Pingtan for its efforts to tackle the aftermath of the most recent typhoon, and he also spoke highly of the county's preparations ahead of Trami.

This was the 12th typhoon to land on the Chinese mainland this year, hitting Pingtan head-on on August 22, and resulting in direct economic losses of more than 100 million yuan ($16.33 million). But there were no reports of casualties.

Su Shulin said on August 26 that Trami brought destructive torrential rains and strong gales, but losses were greatly reduced due to Pingtan's "excellent organization."

He also said that the county should use the typhoon as a sort of test, and determine any issues that need to be resolved.

Disaster relief work was carried out by various government departments as soon as Trami left Pingtan, and this made a strong impression on a Taiwan construction inspection team that visited Pingtan on August 24.

A member of the team said that he had expected their project to be badly affected by the typhoon, but had witnessed how fast the county recovered, and he called this "amazing."

The fast recovery can be attributed to workers from across Fujian province who made great efforts to clear roads and flooded areas and restore supplies of power, communication and water - with most of the 156 construction sites in Pingtan now operating as normal.

The local government has allocated a disaster relief fund of 8 million yuan for victims, and more measures are expected in the next few days.
